Necklace, symbol of identity

Artemidoro was writing:

Every female ornament for the neck,

announces earnings and great abundance,

I'm just saying, you know, I'm not gonna have a maiden's wedding,

and children to women who don't have any yet.

History teaches us that the jewellery to be worn was always a sign of a particular message, or of a social condition. The necklace in particular was a symbol of belonging, defining ties, ideologies and status. The name "necklace" itself derives from the anatomical part of the neck for which it is intended: the neck is that part of the body that recalls the sensitivity, delicacy and sensuality of the body. According to the ancient peoples it was the part where the soul and the body joined together, the heart and the brain found a meeting point, and as such it had to be decorated. The necklace became therefore the instrument to express the deepest essence of a person, it is the manifesto of his own identity: something that immediately jumps to the eye if worn and that conveys a message. The first traces of necklaces were found in Iraq, in the tombs of ancient UR rulers, inside rich kits; even shamans used power necklaces, with bone pendants or shells of various kinds.

Over the centuries, it has acquired an ornamental value and figures have been created that specialise in the manufacture of jewellery. But still today, when we wear a necklace, we are giving a message of what we consider important, of our interiority. So watch out for the pendant of your choice!
